Is It OK to Be Bisexual?

picture

First things first: yes, it’s great to be bisexual! Society as a whole has actually advanced a lot in recent years, and being bi is no longer looked down on as some sort of disorder or mental disease. In fact, if you asked the average person, “is it OK to be bisexual?” chances are, the person you asked wouldn’t tell you that being bisexual is a bad thing! Still, things in the United States definitely aren’t entirely perfect yet. While gay rights have certainly expanded a lot so far, there is unfortunately still a lot of progress to be made. Did you know that there are still 12 states where a gay relationship is actually illegal? Of course, these laws are rarely upheld, but with the vast majority of states have already overturned these laws, the fact that they still remain in effect is a slap in the face to members of the LBGT community.

Is being bisexual bad? We know it’s not, but if you ask a lot of people what bisexuality actually is, they wouldn’t be able to give you a specific answer either. This definitely shows a lack of education in modern society, but on the plus side, overall acceptance is growing, which is certainly a plus. While we won’t be actually giving you a guide on how to be bisexual (you either are or you’re not), we’ll still go over the term in-depth to give you a better understanding of how the entire spectrum works.

The Purpose of This Bisexual Blog

picture

We’re just at the beginning of this bisexual blog & we’ve already answered the question, “is it bad to be bisexual?”! Education is the main point of this bisex blog because although being bisexual is becoming more commonplace, there are still many facts about bisexuality that people actually don’t know about. For example, did you know that being bi doesn’t always mean you like both genders equally? Many bi sexual individuals prefer one gender over the other, but that doesn’t make them “gay bisexuals” (or any other type of bisexual); they’re just bi-sexual! One of the most important bisexual facts that you should definitely know is that bisexuality is a spectrum: you can prefer same-gendered partners more than opposite-gender partners & it still doesn’t affect how bisexual you are. As long as you have a sexual attraction to both genders on some level, you’re consider bisexual.

The great part about being bisexual is you always have a lot more partner options than your cis-gendered peers. Whereas bisexual fun could involve two guys, two girls, or a guy & a girl, your cis-gendered peers limit their fun to only opposite-gender relationships. What fun is that? One unfortunate misconception about the gay community is that it’s widespread with AIDS. That certainly isn’t true, but that doesn’t mean the LBGT community is immune to it either. Yet like with all encounters, we strongly recommend always using protection to help keep yourself (and your partners) safe & coming back for more!

Bisexual Facts You Need to Know Before You Have Fun

It’s unfortunate, but discrimination definitely happens. That doesn’t make it OK, but chances are, you’ll have to be the butt of some bisexual jokes at some point in your lifetime. Some people can take this in stride, but other times, it can often lead to statements like “I hate being bisexual.” Since discrimination is, unfortunately, a common problem, we thought it was important to include a few tips in this bisex blog to help you cope. If you find yourself being harassed, remember this:

  • You’re not alone. Gay, bisexuals, & even straight people all have to deal with harassment at one point or another. Fortunately, there are many online groups that you can turn to for support, where you can meet other people who’ve shared similar experiences.
  • There’s no such thing as “bisexual things.” If there’s something you enjoy doing, just do it, & don’t waste time worrying about other people’s perceptions.
  • You are protected. Thanks to recent court rulings, being bisexual is actually a protected class. This means you can’t be fired for being bisexual. Should your employer try to tell you otherwise, try to record this interaction before going to the officials! You may be able to make off with a pretty penny.
  • Hating yourself is never the answer. If you find yourself having thoughts of self-harm, it’s time to ask for help. Help is available at 800-273-8255.

As a Bisexual, Fun Is Easy to Come By!

Now to lighten things up a bit! We’ve gone over the hardships of being bi, reviewed some tough facts about bisexuals, & established that the answer to the questions “is it OK to be bi?” & “is being bisexual normal?” are resounding yes. Although this bisex blog has been somewhat negative so far, it’s time to lighten things up & go over all the great things about being bisexual! The main advantage is certainly obvious: you have a lot of partner options! Cis-gendered men (or women), gay, & bisexuals all offer unique sexual experiences, which means you’ll never have an issue getting laid, but it also means that you’ll definitely have many romantic opportunities as a bi-sexual as well. When it comes to bisexual men, facts don’t lie: you’re actually more likely to end up in a relationship with a woman than a man, but that doesn’t mean the option isn’t there!

The plethora of bi facts reveals that bisexual men are actually less likely to come out than their gay counterparts, which may be because, unfortunately, so many people don’t actually understand what being bi sexual truly means. Of course, your sexuality is your business, so you can choose to express it how you would like. However, always being honest with yourself is what’s most important, & if your friends are truly your friends, they will support you when you come out as bisexual, regardless of how well they actually understand it.

Life As a Bisexual (Things We Don’t Think About)

picture

How common is bisexuality? Bisexuals are actually the majority when it comes to the LBGT community, making up a total of 54.6% of the community! As with any other sexual preference, there isn’t any particular reason as to why are people bisexual; they just are! Unfortunately, only 28% of bi-sexual individuals have let the various important people in their lives know they’re bi people; most people just avoid that question. This gives you an interesting opportunity to be a part of this changing statistic since you can announce yourself to the world while standing up for other bisexuals. Gay men & lesbians definitely tend to reveal their sexuality much more often (reported at 77% & 71%, respectively).

Since many people don’t come out, you might have trouble finding other self-identifying bisexuals, but fortunately, the internet has the solution for you! There are many dating services dedicated to bisexual singles & being bi in general, which means actually connecting with your local community, could only be a few clicks away. They can provide a great amount of knowledge, helping you learn how to cope with being bisexual & learning about making smart lifestyles choice while being bisexual. Plus, you’re sure to make some great friends along the way!
